XR100 / CRF100

Honda are well-known for reliability but the XR100 / CRF100 takes the crown for reliability. Both models are the same bike from Honda. The CRF is just the new name. Either model makes for one superb starter dirt bike, but they can be even better for parents with kids intent on MX racing. Rather than spring for a more expensive model of a racing bike, this can be customized with a different engine and various other parts.

Trail Rider or Track Racer

With a dry weight of 165 pounds, The XR100 / CRF100 aren't the lightest of Honda bikes, but they do have a heavy flywheel, which combined with the low-gearing, makes for less stalling on the trails. In terms of maintenance, the only things required are the usual oil changes and cleaning the air filter routinely.

The seat height is 30.5" making it suitable for younger riders and the older kids among us to ride as a minibike. The frame is sturdy, and it's used by riders to make pit bikes and mini motocross bikes. In many respects, the Honda XR100 has similarities to the Yamaha TTR 125.

Same Bike, Material Differences

The original setup is a 99cc four-stroke engine with a bore and stroke of 2.1" by 1.8" and capable of up to 6 horse power. The only difference between the older and newer products line is that Honda swapped some metal parts for plastics.
